What do people do to keep themselves occupied whilst living in the middle of the Canadian Rockies where the outside temperature is usually (at most) -18?
At Lake Louise, most staff of the hotel live and work within the hotel grounds. There are some activities and events held by colleague services to keep the workforce entertained. The rest involves drinking alcohol and leaving the hotel grounds to go snowboarding / skiing. I, like most people here, was particularly busy with work over the December holiday season, but I did have time to take some photos of hotel life.
My first night out at the staff pub "The Stables".
This night was fancy dress, although I don't think there was a theme as such.
Drinking "the shaft". A cocktail that tastes like yesterdays coffee.
I don't know who's bathroom this was, or exactly how I ended up here...
More Stables madness.
Grilled cheese eating contest.
The heat of the action.
The end of year staff gala.
A fancy party held for the staff at the end of the year.
My camera usually allows me to get up onto stage at events.
Reminds me of photographing proms.
Inside the ice bar.
What could be cooler than getting a drink at an ice bar?
I come to the ice bar fairly often during my lunch break. It is a great place to chill, no pun intended.
Lake Louise transformed. When I first arrived it was a deep aqua green, now it is all white.
The maple syrup bar, just behind the ice bar.
The process involves being served a line of maple syrup on ice,
and then rolling it with a stick to form a maple syrup ice lolly.
Maple syrup chef.
I plan on getting blog posts uploaded twice a week in 2017. Every Sunday and Wednesday. So check back Wednesday 11th January.
